Top fintech podcasts
For someone who is passionate about fintech, I have searched podcasts for all fintech programs. While I am subscribed to a lot more, these 4 are my top ones and why:
- Breaking bank
- Fintech insider
- Bank on it
- Banking transformed
Note1: The list is US centric. If I were doing top fintech podcast for Europe, the list would have been different.
Note 2: There are other related podcasts that I listen to in payments, technology, and strategy that are not included
What I look for in the podcasts are to stay current and to hear insights from industry experts, and they are also the top reason why I picked the 4 above.
Breaking bank
This is the most popular fintech podcast in the world, and hosted by fintech celebrity Brett King, who is famous for rightly predicted Banking 2.0 and 3.0. Though I may not agree with some parts of his Bank 4.0, I think it will be hard to argue against his overall themes on AI, blockchain, and embedded banking.
Besides the popularity, what I like is the really knowledgeable host and the caliber of the guests. Brett has been traveling around the world, and his insights is worldly. A number of fintech podcasts are tied to specific area such as America, Europe, or Asia, which can be limiting as fintech is a world wide phenomenon. For example, it’s easy for someone to overlook the importance of payments without knowing the impacts of m-pesa in Kenyan and Alipay in China.
Fintech insider
Started by the founders of 11FS, a fintech consulting firm based in London. They invite people in the industry to talk about top current news in fintech in an in-formal setting.
Although this podcast is focused a bit more on London fintech market, I still like it because it’s something that I would have like to do, talk to smart people about top news in fintech. Not only are they insightful, but they also try to do so in a relaxed way. And fintech enthusiasts like me, it’s actually very entertaining!
Bank on it
This podcast invite either entrepreneurs or fintech investors to talk about their experience and investment philosophies. The host is John Siracusa, who has was a founder and now a mentor.
One of the key reason I like this podcast is the host John Siracusa. His ability to get interesting stories from founders and investors is shown through his interviews. As a result the interviewees often have a good time, and also the listener.
Banking transformed
This podcast focus on banking transformation. Contrary to the previous podcast, it focus more on the incumbent rather than the start-up. The host is Jim Marrous, co-publisher of the thefinancialbrand. A top source of ideas and insights for banking executives.
In addition to the fact that I am an avid reader of thefinancialbrand and Jim is very knowledgeable, this is one of the best source of information on banking digital transformation. Although founder stories are interesting, and new technologies are exciting, ideas and insights for the incumbents provide a different perspective and helps me formulate a balanced view.
One of the thing that I noticed is that there wasn’t much English podcast on fintech asia or fintech China. Perhaps there is a gap in the market?
